Our furniture is built by hand using the same techniques as early American craftsmen with great attention to detail. For example, all flat surfaces are hand scraped. There are no metal nuts or bolts. All legs are hand turned and attached to the table aprons with mortise and tenon joinery.Mass produced or True Reproduction Furniture? How can you tell if a reproduction chair or table is made with traditional handmade techniques or mass produced? The easiest way is to check the number of boards in the chair seat. Factory-made seats can contain as many as eight boards. At Dungan-Tingley, our chair seats never have more than three boards. In addition, table tops should be made of wide boards. Our tiger maple table tops average four to five boards on a standard sized table and are always made of highly figured wood. Many will claim that their furniture is handmade…and it is, from an assembly line in countries like China. That’s one reason why we welcome visitors to our shop in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, by appointment. Please call or email to schedule your visit. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you furnish your home or business. | ||
